WHO ARE THE EBBTIDES?

We are a club formed under the umbrella of the Masters Swim Association of BC. We provide pool time and coaching for recreational and competitive swimmers. Our club has 60+ members, some who have been with the club for over 25 years. We host a swim meet every year and encourage all of our swimmers to participate.

Annual Nanaino-Lethbridge Challenge Participants swam 50 x 50m on 50 sec.

WHAT ELSE DOES THE CLUB DO?

Our club organizes socials so club members can get to know their fellow swimmers with their clothes on. E-mail invitations are sent out to members.

We participate in Masters Swim meets. You can see how your hard work has improved your swim times. Did you know you can log your meet times and your workout distances on the Masters Swimming Canada website (in the fitness section)?

Watch out for the 50 50s on 50 challenges between the Ebbtides and a team in Lethbridge! Here are the club members who braved the snow to swim the challenge on December 19th, 2008!

IS COACHING PROVIDED?

We currently have three qualified coaches guiding us in our efforts to swim faster and farther. Jacko is on deck Saturdays, and Darcy and Courtney coach on Mondays and Wednesdays. They make certain there is a workout to please every type of swimmer from recreational to competitive. If you are not getting as much correction as you would like or if the workout isn't hard enough for you, simply talk with your coach.

WHO CAN JOIN?

Can you swim 15 to 20 lengths of the pool? Are you willing to improve your strokes? Then the Nanaimo Ebbtides Masters Swim Club has a lane waiting for you!

Don't be fooled! The name Masters simply means that you need to be 19 years of age or older. Many of us are much, much older and still a long ways from being masters in the art of swimming!

We cater to all abilities of swimming, but suggest you will need basic swimming skills and some endurance. If you aren’t sure, come watch us swim so you can judge for yourself.

Our youngest swimmer at the Ebbtides meet was Andrew at 18. Our oldest swimmer at the Ebbtides meet was Fred at 90!
